Nini Andrade Silva was born in Funchal and graduated in Design from the Institute of Visual Arts, Design and Marketing (IADE), in Lisbon, having pursued further academic and professional experience abroad, in New York, London, Paris, South Africa and Denmark. Through her work, recognised nationally and internationally, Nini Andrade Silva has spread the name of Portugal around the world. As a multi-faceted creator, her work is showcased in important collections and contemporary art museums worlwide. On 10 June 2011, Nini Andrade Silva was distinguished by the Portuguese Government with the Honorary Title of Grand Officer of the Infante D. Henrique Order. More recently, the artist opened the doors of her Design Centre, located in Funchal. Her private collection is at the heart of the creation of this centre, a project built around a museographical discourse which will permit a better understanding of the history and culture of the Island of Madeira, and its strong connection to the sea.
